LLP Celebrate Poetry Month! I Want to Write is a FREE, virtual poetry writing workshop series and performance extravaganza! I Want to Write is held annually during poetry month in April at Tennessee State University. This year's theme, Resistance, Rebellion, and Revolution, features workshops inspired by current events and the call for voice, reclamation, and transcendence. Poetry related workshops and events will occur throughout the month and are sponsored by TSU’s English and Art Departments, Southern Word, Regional Authors, and Soul Fire Poetry Organization. |

Brava Dr. Shannon Hayes! Dr. Hayes is the co-editor of Puncta: Journal of Critical Phenomenology, which just released its latest issue. Puncta is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal of philosophy. The theme of the new issue is "Critical Phenomenology, Racial Justice, and Radical Imagination.” All of the articles are freely available online for reading and download. Planting Seeds of the Future Documentary Premiere "This project started with a very simple idea," says Dr. Masala. "Showing the real meaning of being a farmworker in the United States and how little we know about it. I came up with this idea years ago when I was living in Southwest Florida, an incredibly rich and opulent area with "forgotten" cities such as Immokalee." The PBS documentary will initially air on South Florida's WGCU, a virtual channel owned by Florida Gulf Coast University. PASS Tutoring is Back, Fall 2022 This semester, faculty members from the English department are working with Tiger Tutoring. Tutors will be available starting Jan. 31. This service is free to students. PASS is a great opportunity for students who need help with writing to receive immediate feedback from faculty. Our writing tutors are equipped to help students at the University with various writing assignments and activities (within English department classes and beyond). They can assist the student at any stage of their writing process from brainstorming ideas to providing strategies for revision. Soul Fire Poetry Group and Workshop will return Fall 2019. The first meeting of the semester will be held at 5 p.m., Weds., Sept. 14, On ZOOM . This departmental organization meets once a week to hone poetry writing and performance skills, organize open mic performances, and to workshop their ideas. It features a Poet Mentor from Southern Word, who helps students craft their skills.
