CIVIL ENGINEERING

The Civil Engineering program prepares student to work in various civil engineering projects involving:

  • design,
  • construction,
  • management and
  • operation.

Typical areas include design and construction of:

  • high rise buildings (e.g. Empire State Building),
  • bridges (such as the Brooklyn Bridge),
  • dams (such as Hoover Dam),
  • roads (for example interstate highways) and
  • airports (example O'Hare Airport),
  • water supply Systems (for example the clean water we drink daily),
  • waste management systems for disposal of waste water into sewers and
  • development of housing subdivisions and shopping centers.

ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING

Architectural Engineering is the profession that offers an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to the:

  • planning,
  • design,
  • construction, and
  • operation of buildings.

Architectural engineers have the primary responsibility for the design of:

  • structural,
  • heating,
  • cooling,
  • electrical,
  • lighting, and
  • fire protection systems

for all building types

but may also design systems for:

  • acoustical,
  • communications,
  • water and waste water,
  • vibration, and
  • site plan analysis and orientation.
