About SCA

 

 

Summer Completion Academy (SCA) is a rigorous four-week program that allows first-time freshmen admitted into Tennessee State University for Fall 2026 the opportunity to complete one or more learning support requirement (Writing, Reading, OR Math) and take a TSU course for credit while receiving quality instruction, college success information, peer engagement, and academic development.

Summer 2026

Summer Completion Academy will not be held in Summer 2025. We will look to continue this program in 2026 for the 2026 freshman class.


Eligibility SCA

Incoming Fall 2026, first-time freshmen who have:

  1. Been accepted to Tennessee State University as a First-Time Freshman for Fall 2026
  2. Resident of Tennessee (Graduated from a TN high school)
  3. Completed the intent to enroll form
  4. Earned lower than an 18 (500 SAT) subscore on the writing or lower than a 19 (500 SAT) subscore on the mathematics and reading portions of the ACT. Learn more about standard college criteria here.
  5. NOT completed ENGL 1010 (Freshman English I) or MATH 1710 (Precalculus Algebra I) for dual enrollment, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate credit.

SCA FAQ

What is the cost of participating in SCA?

There is no cost to participate in SCA.

Is this program available for out-of-state students?

This program is available for in-state residents only.

Out-of-state students whose ACT (or SAT) scores are below the college-level criteria may take the Accuplacer exam to test out of mathematics, reading, and writing learning support classes.

If I apply, does that mean I am automatically accepted?

No. Slot availability is based on need, availability of our courses, and learning support sections.

Do I have to attend TSU in the 2026-2027 academic year to participate in this program?

Yes. Students must enroll at TSU as a part of the conditions of attendance for SCA.

Is the academy a residential program?

Yes. SCA will be a residential program where students will stay on campus for four (4) weeks. Students will go home every Thursday and be expected back on campus every Sunday by 7:00 pm. The first week will be virtual due to the 4th of July holiday.

If I am accepted into SCA, what are some things I must do?

Acceptance details will be sent after you are notified of acceptance.
