Adebayo Oyebade, PhD


Adebayo Oyebade is a military/diplomatic historian with special interest in the United States’ strategic interest in Africa during World War II. He is currently working on a book project which explores America’s diplomatic and military engagement in West Africa during the war. His co-authored book, Hot Spot: Sub-Saharan Africa, published by Greenwood Press examines major post-independence conflicts and conflict areas in Africa. Apart from numerous scholarly journal articles and book chapters, he is the author, editor, and co-editor of ten books on African history. He has been a recipient of many scholarly awards including the Fulbright.

Precolonial Africa (ancient times to the beginnings of European colonization); Colonial Africa, (colonization period through the emergence and organization of independent states); Modern Africa (post-independence period); History of Slavery and Slave Trades in Africa; and American History (1877 to present)

Research Interests

Colonial, and post-colonial African history; the African Diaspora; Africa’s international relations; the Atlantic World; World War II and U.S. Strategic interest in West Africa; and African Historiography
