Mission & Objectives

The Department is committed to provide the students with a dynamic academic and professional foundation enabling them to shape the future advancement of knowledge in the areas of civil and environmental engineering and to contribute to the economic growth and well-being of both the state and the nation.

 The Civil Engineering Program Educational Objectives are:

The Civil engineering Program at Tennessee State University has accepted and implemented the use of the term “objectives” as described in the current ABET Engineering Criteria. Hence, the objectives listed below are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the. graduates of the civil engineering program at Tennessee State University are expected to achieve within two to three years after graduation.

Objective 1

Use the systematic scientific approach and knowledge of physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering science to delineate and solve civil engineering problems.

 

Objective 2

Build on undergraduate design experiences and  achieve professional registration.

 

Objective 3

Continue to develop professional attitudes, ethical character, and an understanding of the engineer’s responsibility to society.

 

Objective 4

Demonstrate curiosity and a desire for lifelong learning initiated by intellectual challenges presented by the program.

 

Objective 5

Function effectively in multicultural and multidiscipline groups.

 

Objective 6

Use state of the art technologies and modern tools, building on experiential learning activities presented by the program.

 

Objective 7

Be able to effectively communicate technical and professional information in written, visual, and oral formats
