JOURNAL OF DEVELOPING AREAS
Department of Economics and Finance is the home to the prestigious Journal of Developing Areas, a premier journal in the areas of development economics and policy. The Journal of Developing Areas (JDA) aims to stimulate in-depth and rigorous empirical and theoretical research on all issues pertaining to the process of economic development. It also intends to encourage research on economic, social, urban/regional and inner city problems of the United States and other developed countries. STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES
Our students have the opportunity to study abroad during the summer. Organized trips sponsored by College of Business faculty have included trips to Ireland and China among others. Financial aid is available and students can earn course credit for these trips abroad. 

HANDS ON LEARNING
Our state-of-the-art financial trading classroom (AWC326) allows students to monitor market conditions. The department also organizes guest speakers and sponsors lectures series that provide students the opportunity to learn from working professionals. Upper division courses enhance the classroom experience through the use of case studies and comprehensive projects that that allow students to build their analytical and critical thinking skills; skills that are vital in today’s workplace.

INTERNSHIPS
Our students are able to put the skills they learn in the classroom to work through internships. In addition, our economics and finance students manage nearly half a million dollars in investment funds for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA Challenge Program, Advisor: Dr. Chun-Da Chen). The majority of internships are paid internships and some students even receive college credit. Our students have been offered internships both in Nashville and out of state.
