Title III Graduate Assistantships
Title III provides Graduate Assistantship Opportunities for full-time on-campus students to connect theory learned in the classroom with practical work experience.
Position Types
Graduate Assistant (GA)
Graduate assistants are appointed for the primary purpose of assisting in programming or administrative offices.
Teaching Assistant (TA)
Teaching assistants will assist faculty in teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This can include functioning as a discussion/laboratory section leader, grading assignments, assisting with lab assignments, assisting with lectures, and assisting with office hours.
Research Assistant (RA)
Research assistants will conduct research under the direction of a faculty/staff member. This can include manuscript writing, grant writing, conference presentation, and data collection. Student will receive recognition for work accomplished (eg. Authorship).

Requirements for GA/TA/RA
- 3.0 GPA Overall
- Must be registered for classes:
- Minimum 9 Credit Hours in the Fall & Spring Semesters
- Please Note:
- You must be registered as a full time student to hold a graduate assistantship
- All work assignments are in-person, no virtual assignments
- Master's students are eligible for up to 2 years maximum of support
- Doctoral students are eligible for up to 4 years maximum of support
Important Dates
- GA Application Periods:
- Fall Application Period: June 15th - July 1st
- Spring Application Period: October 15th - November 1st
- Fall orientation occurs the Friday before classes begin
- Contract Term:
- 1st business day of September and last day of classes for Spring Semester according to current academic calendar

- Current TSU students must submit a letter of recommendation from a TSU staff or faculty member
- New students may submit a letter of recommendation from a non TSU staff or faculty member

Important Reminders:

- Application Form for GA positions is only open during the application periods listed above
- You cannot go back and edit or save your progress to the form once started
- You must already be accepted into a graduate program before completing the application
- Please do not email any documents to the Title III Office or they will not be included in your application
- You may apply for as many positions as you would like, but you may only hold one position per university policy
The assistantships are renewable each year subject to appropriate academic progress, meeting all program requirements, and continued funding from the United States Department of Education.
