THE MISSION
The Mid-Tennessee Collaborative Master of Social Work (MTC-MSW) Program is dedicated to the enhancement of human well-being, diversity, and social justice through developing and improving systems of public social services, especially for children and families, by offering graduate training in Social Work with a hybrid model of delivery.
As the first of it's kind in the country, this unique collaboration brings together three higher education systems in Tennessee to offer the MSW degree part-time or full time. A student may apply to one of the following institutions as his/her "home" institution:
- Austin Peay State University,
- Middle Tennessee State University, and
- Tennessee State University.
ACCREDITATION
The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is the national accrediting body for professional social work programs in higher education. CSWE granted the MTC MSW Program Initial Accreditation June 2013. It is important that your degree be accredited by the CSWE, as this accreditation of your degree is one requirement for licensure as a future social worker.
ADVANCED GENERALIST
The purposes of social work education are
- to prepare competent and effective professionals,
- to develop knowledge, values, skills and
- to provide leadership in the development of service delivery systems.
Through the foundation curriculum level (30 credit hours) and/or the concentration curriculum (30 credit hours) of the MTC-MSW Program, the student is prepared for Advanced Generalist Social Work Practice.
The concentration curriculum:
- requires greater theoretical and methodological sophistication,
- enhances the student's skill to address issues of economic and social justice with oppressed populations
- advances the integration of research into advanced practice,
- applies greater depth in the provision of direct or indirect service
- supports interdisciplinary collaboration as well as public-private partnerships, and
- provides the skills to function as administrators, supervisors, policy analysts, and social planners.
Competent advanced generalist practice entails a dual responsibility: serving clients directly while building system capacities to improve programs and services.
