Bio Education Courses Taught Publications and Awards

María A. Leach, D.B.A., C.P.A., C.M.A. is an Associate Professor of Accounting. She obtained her Doctor of Business Administration degree from Mississippi State University, with an accounting major, and minors in Finance and Business Quantitative Analysis. Prior to joining TSU, she taught at the University of South Dakota, at the University of Southern Mississippi, at Auburn University Montgomery, at Jackson State University, at Mississippi State University, and at Mississippi University for Women.

At TSU, she has taught the introductory financial and managerial accounting courses, and Cost Accounting. In addition to these three accounting courses, in prior positions she has taught Intermediate Accounting I and II, Accounting Information Systems, Advanced Accounting, Advanced Cost Accounting, MBA Survey of Accounting, MBA Managerial Accounting, and assisted in a Governmental Accounting course.

Dr. Leach has published research papers on topics such as managerial accounting, information systems management, and control systems. One of her most cited papers is “Differences in the role of job-relevant information in the budget participation-performance relationship among US and Mexican managers: A question of culture or communication.” She has also contributed to the improvement of accounting students’ writing skills using writing circles. She has published research on topics such as cultural convergence of manufacturing managers in Mexico, Korea, Hong Kong, and the USA.

Dr. Leach is very happy to be a part of the Tennessee State University accounting and business faculty.
