Dr. Michael Busby received a BS in Engineering Science at Tennessee Technological University in 1966, a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1970. He worked as a Research Engineer in the Aerospace Environmental Facility at the Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma, TN until 1972 where he joined the faculty at Tennessee State University (TSU) as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering (ME). Dr. Busby served as Department Chair from 1975 to 1977. In 1977 he left TSU to become President of a start-up engineering consulting company, Watt Count Engineering Systems, Inc. He served as Chief Executive Officer until the company was purchased in 1986; however, during this nine year period he was an adjunct professor at TSU teaching several evening graduate courses for the ME Department. Dr. Busby returned full-time to TSU in 1987 as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and was appointed as the Director of the Center of Excellence in Information Systems Engineering and Management (COE). He currently serves in both these roles teaching in the ME Department and managing the research programs in the COE. From 2011 to the present he has served as the Interim Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs. Dr. Busby is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and is a practicing Registered Professional Engineer.
