Meet the Facilitators

Field

Dr. Chris Field is an Assistant Professor of English at Tennessee State University. He is originally from Dayton, Ohio, but he comes to TSU by way of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he studied for his PhD. He has taught a variety of literature and composition classes examining themes as diverse as traumatic representations in literature, rhetoric in sports, and American popular culture. When he is not hard at work researching or teaching, he enjoys watching the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds, and he considers himself a “huge comic book nerd.” Dr. Field earned his Ph.D. in Literature from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Dr. Yoo

Dr. Hyeon Jean Yoo is an Assistant Professor of Education in the Department of Teaching & Learning. She is a former English teacher in middle schools in South Korea and studied Adult Education and Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation at Auburn University, where she earned her Ph.D. and M.S. degrees. Her research focuses on English learners, online and distance learning, and disadvantaged learners. A mother of two children, her recent research focused on examining the effect of the intersectionality of gender and parenthood on graduate students' mental health. Outside of work, she enjoys baking with her two children.

 Dr. Johnson

Dr. Latoya Johnson is an Assistant professor in the department of Teaching and Learning at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. Prior to joining Tennessee State University, Latoya served as the Director of Teacher Education at the University for Lane College, Assistant Professor of Social Foundations in Education at the University of North Georgia and Professional Development School (PDS) Laboratory Coordinator at the Unversity of Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Elementary Education from Belhaven University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Theory and Practice with a concentration in Teacher Education from the University of Georgia. As a former elementary and high school teacher, Latoya has over 14 years of experience teaching in K-16 schools. She has conducted international research in Ghana and served as a research associate on multiple educational research projects, served as a peer reviewer for top education journals, and delivered presentations and conducted workshops at major educational conferences across the nation and internationally.
