View Scholarship Tiers At-a-Glance -- Academic Year Fall 2024 - Spring 2025

TIER ONE

This award will cover up to an estimated total of $18,630.00* per academic year. It is renewable for up to four consecutive academic years; covering fall and spring semesters only, and covers the following:

  • Tuition
    - Housing
    - Unlimited meal plan
    - Maintenance fees
    - Program fees
    * Other fees related to courses laboratories, and clinics.
    * NOTE: The amount of cost are subject to change or be adjusted based on fiscal projections and approval
  • Criteria
    - Must be a first-time freshmen
    - Have a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
    - Have a 28 - 36 ACT/SAT 1300 - 1600 or higher
  • To Keep Scholarship
    - Must complete FAFSA by the deadline date each year
    - Must maintain a 3.5 GPA
    - Earn 15 credits per semester (total of 30 credit hours each academic year)

This award will cover up to an estimated total of $24,630.00* per academic year. It is renewable for up to four consecutive academic years; covering fall and spring semesters only, and covers the following:

This award will cover up to an estimated total of $22,630.00* per academic year. It is renewable for up to four consecutive academic years; covering fall and spring semesters only, and covers the following:

This award will cover up to an estimated total of $15,630.00* per academic year. It is renewable for up to four consecutive academic years; covering fall and spring semesters only, and covers the following:

This award will cover up to an estimated total of $21,630.00* per academic year. It is renewable for up to four consecutive academic years; covering fall and spring semesters only, and covers the following:

TIER TWO

This award will cover up to an estimated total of $8,000.00* per academic year. It is renewable for up to four consecutive academic years; covering fall and spring semesters only, and covers the following:

  • Tuition
    - Maintenance fees
    - Program fees
    * Other fees related to courses laboratories, and clinics.
    * NOTE: The amount of cost are subject to change or be adjusted based on fiscal projections and approval
  • Criteria
    - Must be a first-time freshmen
    - Have a weighted GPA of 3.0-3.2 
    - Have a 19-23 ACT/SAT 900-1150
  • To Keep Scholarship
    - Must complete FAFSA by the deadline date each year
    - Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
    - Earn 15 credits per semester (total of 30 credit hours each academic year)

TIER THREE

Beginning Fall 2024, the Office of Instituitional Merit Scholarships will offer the newly Tier Three Merit Scholarships for qualifying upperclassmen at Tennessee State University. To qualify, you will need to have the standard GPA by the end of summer session II going into the fall semester. More information on how to apply will be available soon.

$5,000.00 - 3.9 GPA or HIGHER

$4,000.00 - 3.6 - 3.8 GPA

$3,500.00 - 3.3 - 3.5 GPA

$3,000.00 - 3.0 - 3.2 GPA

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Tennessee State University, one the the nation's high-achieving HBCUs, welcomes our outstanding scholars to explore other options when choosing financial assistance. When being accepted into the University, and the student has all of the requirements to obtain a merit scholarship, majority of the time, it does not cover the entire cost of tuition. In the Office of Instititional Merit Scholarship, we have comprised a list of external scholarships that can be useful. (will be updated periodically)
