Engineering Concepts Institute (E.C.I.)
(Incoming Freshman in College of Engineering Only)

The E.C.I. is a summer Ten-week virtual academic enrichment program that simulates the college experience-attend classes daily, complete homework assignments, and attend a study group session with tutor. The Institute provides an opportunity for students, who are mature and committed to educational excellence, to prepare for academic success, particularly in math and sciences, in their first year as a college freshman at TSU. The E.C.I will provide 3 credit hours MATH 1900 (online), paid by the College. When the student passes the MATH 1900 with a C or better, he/she will start in MATH 1910 (Calculus I) in Fall semester. This Math 1900 should only be taken by students enrolling with an ACT Math score of 24 or less or the SAT equivalent. Students with ACT or SAT Math equivalent of 25 or greater will automatically qualify to take MATH 1910 (Calculus 1) in the Fall 2024. The highest achieving students will be eligible for consideration of scholarship assistance for their first year of college. The E.C.I. also provides 1 credit hour for ENGR 1020 Freshmen Engineering Seminar (online), or 1 credit hour of COMP 1500 Introduction to Computer Science (online), or 1 credit hour of ENGR 1151 Computer Engineering Graphics (online). Students will pay their tuition for ENGR 1020/1151 and COMP 1500. The E.C.I. students will join the one-day College of Engineering New student orientation on July 19 to learn about their program, meet faculty and engage with industry partners. Please plan to stay to attend this event after you attend the University College of Engineering orientation on July 17 or 18.
