Expanded Food and Nutrition Education

Assisting Families with Nutrition

EFNEP is a nutrition-education program funded by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The program works in communities with limited resources providing food and nutrition education to families and youth. EFNEP educators are trained to teach:

  • basic nutrition,
  • food safety,
  • budget-shopping,
  • and food preparation skills

to clients using hands-on activities and practical, easy-to-understand materials.

Changing Behaviors

EFNEP works with families and youth to acquire the knowledge, skills, and changed behaviors necessary for nutritionally-sound diets and experience personal development, which improves the total family diet and nutritional welfare.
