Our Mission

The Department’s mission is to provide an academically rigorous program in support of the College of Business mission of offering a high quality academic program. The Department of Economics and Finance offers a program of instruction for those who expect to pursue careers in economics, finance, international business, insurance, or government and provides service courses for business and non-business majors.

Wh at does it take to obtain a degree in Economics and Finance?

 

As an Economics and Finance major, it’s our responsibility to teach you the essential principles regarding how consumers and producers react to various market conditions. Also, to understand how macro- and microeconomic environments adjust differently to factors and specific market trends and indicators. The successful completion of our program consists of 3 sets of courses:

 

1st Set: General Education Courses (54 Credit Hours)

2nd Set: General Business Core Courses (36 Credit Hours)

3rd Set: Concentration Courses (30 Credit Hours)

We understand as a student you may have interests that take a more narrow focus deep into the Economics and Finance discipline. To complement a curriculum that provides a strong core structure we also offer concentrations in Economic and Finance listed below. Based on your selected concentration, we’ve indicated the required courses for completion.

W hat makes your faculty and staff special?

When asked by our students, Economics and Finance professors were overwhelmingly favored by our business school students for their ability to make complex formulas relevant and engaging. Words used to describe our faculty are difficult, challenging, encouraging, supportive, and engaging. It’s not uncommon to hear laugher in concert with learning resonate from the classrooms of our Economics and Finance professors. Hallway and parking lot office meetings are frequently held with students, sharing their passion for the art and science that make up Economics and Finance. 100% of our full time faculty hold doctorate degrees with an average classroom Professor-to-learner ratio of 20-to-1. Although student friendly, our faculty are internationally recognized for their research and can be found providing economics and financial editorials for publications across the country or interviewed for commentary on economic condition.
