Wall of Excellence Scholarship

Undergraduate : This year the scholarships are available for eligible undergraduate business students from General Motors, Volkswagen of America, Avon-Sylvia C. Coleman Endowment, Damon and Rachel Lee Endowment, Boeing, John T. Masten Memorial Scholarship, Lewis R. Holland Memorial Scholarship, and College of Business Alumni and Friends Fund.

MBA : Scholarships for MBA students are available from Samuel H. Howard MBA Scholarship and Volkswagen of America.

QUALIFICATIONS/ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants must be full-time students enrolled at Tennessee State University; students should also have a declared major in the College of Business.
  • Applicants must meet the Tennessee State University financial aid requirements.
  • Applicants must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00.  
  • Applicants must have demonstrated good character in and outside of the classroom.

 

Note: If you become enrolled less than full-time, you will become ineligible for the College of Business Scholarship. The scholarship will be rescinded if the recipient is no longer enrolled full-time at TSU or if the recipient is no longer a student in the College of Business. Scholarship will also be rescinded if the GPA falls below 3.00. All scholarship dollars will be allocated toward TSU College of Business expenses which include tuition and fees, room and board, and course-related textbooks.   


 

RECIPIENT EXPECTATIONS

It is the expectation of the College of Business that students who receive a scholarship will:

1)      acknowledge the donor of their scholarship

2)      attend functions or participate in workshops targeted towards awardees’ including the Awards Ceremony.

3)      participate in College of Business activities involving the corporate community


SELECTION CRITERIA

Only fully completed applications emailed on or before the due date will be considered. The criteria for selection are:

Academic Excellence : One of the first considerations in awarding a scholarship is your overall GPA.

The minimum qualifying GPA for most Wall of Excellence scholarships is 3.00.

Leadership : Having leadership abilities and skills are crucial in today’s global environment. In your application, you will describe your leadership experiences in 750 words or less. These may include your extra-curricular activities, volunteering, and any other relevant activities.

Career Goals:  In your application, you will write an essay in 750 words or less, how you plan to

use your business degree to further your career goals.

Resume : Your current resume will also be evaluated. In your application, please copy and paste your resume.

References : In your application, we have asked you to indicate the name and contact information of two references.  The committee may contact the references for additional information about the applicant. 

Character : Finally, the selection committee does take into account the character of applicants. In addition to civic service, integrity is especially important. How you act in the classroom and in the hallways will be contributing factors for your scholarship consideration.

Some donors may also have specific requirements for awarding scholarships.
