The Board of Trustees
Governing Body of the University Pursuant to the Focus on College and University Success (FOCUS) Act, Tennessee State University is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of ten (10) members, of which nine (9) are voting members. The Board of Trustees appoints one student, non-voting member.

Committees

Board Office
The Board Office supports the Board of Trustees by coordinating meetings, maintaining official records, facilitating communications, and ensuring effective governance operations.
Governor-Appointed Trustees
Eight (8) members are appointed and approved by the Governor and ratified by the Tennessee General Assembly.
Faculty Trustee
One member – a faculty Trustee – is appointed by TSU’s Faculty Senate.

The Tennessee State University Board of Trustees will hold a virtual committee meeting and a special meeting of the full Board on June 30, 2026. The meeting will be livestreamed and may be accessed using the link provided below. The meeting is open to the public and will be conducted electronically. Meeting agendas and materials will be posted when available and are subject to change.
Public Meeting Notices
The Tennessee State University Board of Trustees will hold committee meetings and a special meeting of the full Board virtually on June 23, 2026 and June 30, 2026. The meetings are open to the public and will be conducted, permitting participation by electronic or other means of communication as necessary.
