Office of Institutional Merit Scholarships

Tennessee State University is pleased to offer competitive academic merit scholarships for new students enrolling for the Fall 2024-2025 academic school year. To be considered for an academic scholarship, new first-time freshmen and transfer students who are starting their collegiate journey in the Fall of 2024 must complete and submit an application for Admissions, a high school transcript, and your official ACT or SAT scores to be considered for one of the University's Merit Scholarships. NOTE:  Transfer students are not required to submit high school transcripts or test scores; only your most recent college transcripts.

Once all required documents have been received, weighted GPAs and test scores will be reviewed to determine scholarship eligibility. Students who've completed their admissions by the deadline and meet the merit scholarship requirements for a merit scholarship will be offered the appropriate scholarship as long as funding is available.

Students who have met the merit scholarship requirements will be notified via email of an offer beginning  December 1st.

WHAT'S NEW

We are happy to announce that we have a new tier this year! We heard from many students, administrators, and parents who expressed the desire for a quality education, the difficulties in funding that endeavor, and the help needed. We understand, and it is our hope that this new tier will show and provide some assistance during your college journey.

Tier 3 consists of four merit-based scholarships open to all incoming freshman and  undergraduate students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students' previous semester GPAs will be reviewed, and once confirmed, a scholarship will be awarded at the beginning of the fall or spring semester. Availability of scholarships is determined by funding, and the total amount of the scholarship is for the semester only. It will not be split for the academic year.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • These academic merit scholarships are applicable for fall and spring semesters only and not for summer or mini semesters unless noted in the official scholarship offer agreement.
