Dr. Christine Perkey
Piano Area Leader, Music Theory
Christine M. Perkey is a native of Augusta, Georgia. She graduated from Augusta State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano and theory. She was a student of Artemisia D. Thevaos. She earned a Master of music degree form the University of South Carolina, where she has an assistantship in accompanying and was a student of the late Max W. Camp. Her doctorial degree was completed at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where she was a student of Maurice Hinson, and was an instructor in piano and theory. She also did doctoral work at the University of North Texas, where she was a student of Joseph Banowetz and had a teaching fellowship in piano. She served as a staff accompanist at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. She has also taught at Campbell University, Belmont University, and Blair school of Music of Vanderbilt University. She frequently serves as an adjudicator at piano events in Tennessee. She writes and arranges music and has been published by Hinshaw Music of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This is Dr. Perkey’s fifteenth year on the music faculty of Tennessee State University, where she teaches piano, sophomore theory, and graduate theory review.
