Diamond Anniversary
Celebrating 60 Years!
In September 1948, the Tennessee State Agricultural and Industrial (Tennessee A&I) College in Nashville, Tennessee established a program in engineering education when funds were appropriated by the Tennessee State Legislature and approved by then Governor Jim Nance McCord upon the recommendation of the Commissioner of Education. Substantial leadership in the establishment of the engineering school was provided by Dr. Walter S. Davis, Second President of Tennessee A&I, and Calvin McKissack, a prominent local architect. |

In 1951, that engineering education program was elevated to the status of a School of Engineering when Tennessee A & I State College achieved University status. For the last 60 years, the Tennessee State University College of Engineering has provided quality education with a mission to increase the diversity of tomorrow's technical workforce while nurturing the desire of students to discover, serve and soar. |
