About This Course 

Tennessee State University’s  Summer Program in Data Science offers students of all ages, from middle school to adult learners, a front-row seat  t o the world of  data science and  big data.   This  is an introductory course  for all motivated learners who have  at least  a good understanding of mathematics at the middle school level  and willingness to harness the power of data science in their everyday lives.

High school students are going to be particularly benefited by this course.  Contents covered in the course may be  a good introduction to  a college level introductory statistics or data science course .   Adult learners will be able to acquire solid basic skills in data science to improve their efficiency both at work and at home.    Tennessee State University’s  Summer Program in Data Science offers students of all ages, from middle school to adult learners, a front-row seat  t o the world of  data science and  big data.   This  is an introductory course  for all motivated learners who have  at least  a good understanding of mathematics at the middle school level  and willingness to harness the power of data science in their everyday lives.

T ennessee State University Summer Course in  Data Science is  a  5-week, introductory level course with accompanying  video lectures, live sessions,  downloadable materials ,  and resources.  Participants will receive a  Certification of Completion and 4 CEUs  after successful completion.

Structure and Delivery

  • All students will be enrolled through  Elearn  – Online Class
  • About 8-10 hours of effort required  course work  per week
  • 3 hours of video lectures per week
  • 5-7 hours of guided work and assignments per week
  • Minimum 70% score on all assessments  to earn the CEU s  

Required Software and Hardware:  

  • Laptop/Desktop computer with at least 4 GB RAM and 5 GB of free space
  • Microsoft Excel (installed version, NOT online)  
  • Recommended: A Gmail account with ability to use Google Sheet
