Tennessee State University TigerGem Dance Team The TSU Tigergem Dance Team performs during football and basketball season. In addition to these games, the dancers are required to be at many functions, ranging from pep rallies to alumni gatherings or charity events. Members of the Tigergem dance team are excellent ambassadors of Tennessee State University, the Division of Student Activities and the Department of Athletics. Tryouts for the team are held in September. Incoming freshmen or incoming transfer students, who have been admitted to TSU, as well as current TSU students, will be eligible to tryout. A spring tryout will be held in April to fill open positions on the team. During the fall and spring semesters, practices are held 3 times a week for two to three hours a practice. In addition to practice, all team members are required to participate in a weight training program. Warm-up practices are also held prior to each game and lastly, dancers will be expected to participate in scheduled team activities and appearances. The dance team is financially supported by Student Activities. Most expenses are paid for by the University. Although there are no scholarships for the dance team at this time a book stipend is awarded. Dancing at TSU has many rewards. It is an opportunity to be a part of TSU and many athletic events. It is an opportunity to meet people of all ages and work as a team. Being a part of the TSU Tigergem dance team will give you great memories for your college years. The TSU Tigergem dance program is an important program that requires each dancer to make this a priority. Depending on the athletic schedule, dancers will be required to perform at games during semester breaks, spring break, national competitions, University scheduled holidays, as well as some national holidays. |
Tennessee State University Cheerleading Team
The TSU Cheerleaders are a spirited squad that cheers and performs during football and basketball seasons. In addition to these games, the cheerleaders are required to be at many functions, ranging from pep rallies to alumni gatherings or charity events. Members of the TSU Cheerleading squad are excellent ambassadors of Tennessee State University, the Division of Student Activities and the Department of Athletics. Tryouts for the team are held during spring and fall. Dates will be announced. Watch this site for tryout dates. Incoming freshmen or incoming transfer students, who have been admitted to TSU, as well as current TSU students, will be eligible to tryout. You must have a 2.5 GPA to tryout and maintain a 2.5 or better to remain active on the team. The Cheer Squad is financially supported by Student Activities. Most expenses are paid for by the University. This is a commitment for you to participate and represent your school. |
