Focus Areas for Sophomore Success

You don't have to join everything, and there are many organizations in Student Affairs and your academic department to find community.  As a sophomore, you will want to be more selective--choosing and committing to an organization or campus activity that is connected to your major or a passion/interest you have.

As a college student, you are in full control of your academic standing.  Mapping out pathways to your success is important as you think more seriously about internships and your future career.  Your plan does not consist of planning classes and activities alone, but it includes planning for experiences that will prepare you for graduation and a lifetime of fulfilling work and service.

Getting to know faculty is essential for exploring opportunities within your field and department.  Using faculty office hours is a great start, but try to attend events hosted by faculty and/or your department to strengthen the relationship outside of the classroom.  A great student-faculty relationship will help for future recommendation letters as well as career, research, and graduate opportunities.

There are many resources on campus to keep you engaged and help you navigate college life.  Your sophomore classes may demand more of your time, but do not overlook your campus email.  Many events and opportunities are announced through university communications. You'll also want to connect with the Career Development Center and join Handshake to get updates on internships and career preparation opportunities. You can also enter any internships completed while at TSU in myTSU Banner Services Student tab.
