Advisory Board

Promoting Healthcare Partnerships

The Advisory Board’s purpose is to consultatively promote partnerships between the college, stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and the community.

Undergraduate Charge
The Advisory Board shall serve in a consultative capacity for the Bachelors in Health Sciences and the Bachelors in Health Care Administration and Planning in the following areas: curriculum updates, marketing, recruitment, fundraising, grants, and scholarships.

Graduate Charge
The Advisory Board shall preserve and promote the health of local, state, regional, national, and international populations through a focus on cultural competency and to address critical issues that affect the public’s health.  The department has a commitment to the education of students and public health professionals in practice, research, and life-long learning.

The mission of the department is based on Tennessee State’s mission which is: “to foster scholarly inquiry and research, life-long learning, and a commitment to service”.

The Advisory Board Composition
The Advisory Board consists of individuals with extensive experience and backgrounds in health care that impacts the health sciences. This includes individuals who have worked with diverse communities as well as traditional and non-traditional health communities.

Career Highlights
Dr. Alusp has had a long and successful career in the field of health care and public health. Some of her administrative accomplishments include serving as the Regional Health Officer for the Tennessee Department of Health and as Medical Director for the Upper Manhattan Medical Group.   She has also achieved a high level of clinical success as the Assistant Attending Physician and Clinical Director of Medicine and Pediatrics     at the Local Memorial Hospital in New York City.

Mary Bufwack, PhD Mary

Career Highlights
Dr. Mary Bufwack is an Ohio native who has served as CEO of United Neighborhood Health Services for 25 years. United Neighborhood Health Clinic is a private non-profit group of eleven community clinics that provides comprehensive primary medical care, dental care, behavioral health counseling and prenatal services to over 30,000 underserved, uninsured and vulnerable residents of Nashville and middle Tennessee. Dr. Bufwack is a co-author with her husband, Robert K. Oermann, of ground-breaking history, “Finding Her Voice: 100 Years of Women in Country Music”.

Crystal Christal Fox, BS

Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in the state of Tennessee  

Career Highlights

Ms. Fox is currently in an Administrator in Training Program with National Healthcare Corporation. This program focuses on preparing health professionals to manage long-term care facilities. Prior to enrolling in the Administrator In Training Program, she completed an internship with The Health Center at Richland Place in Nashville, TN. Ms. Fox is also the owner of Fox Photography..

Jesus Garcia, BS, DPT  Juses

DPT in Physical Therapy from Tennessee State University

Career Highlights

Dr. Garcia is currently on a travel assignment in outpatient, inpatient, and home health setting with Delta Health Care Provider at Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, TX. His responsibilities include the evaluation and treatment of patients with joint replacements, CVA, MVA, debility, falls, and multiple co-morbidities. In addition to his work as a physical therapist, he conducts research on the topic of “Soft tissue mobilization, progressive muscle relaxation, and trigger point therapy for tension type headaches: a review of research evidence".    

Dresdene Dresdene E. Flynn -White, BA, MA

Career Highlights

Mrs. Flynn-White is the Vice-President and Chief Diversity Officer of the John Peter Smith Health Network (JPS) in Fort Worth, Texas. In this role, she serves as the senior executive leader     for the organization’s first Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Prior to joining JPS, Mrs. Flynn-White served as Vice President with Kaiser Permanente for 15 years overseeing National Initiatives and Human Resource Integration Strategies.

Don Holloman, BS, M.Ed Point.

Career Highlights

Mr. Don Holloman is the CEO of the Community Health Center of Central Missouri (CHCCM). CHCCM provides primary care services to the residents of central Missouri regardless of their ability to pay and works with community partners to achieve their vision of embracing people and inspiring health. Prior to joining CHCCM, Mr. Holloman was the Director of Operations at Mathew Walker Comprehensive Care Center and Clinic based in Nashville, Tennessee.

 Jenn Jennifer Horne , BS, M.Ed.

Career Highlights

Mrs. Horne currently serves as the Director of Sustainability for Lend Lease, the nation’s leader in public/private community and real estate development projects. As a global organization, the company has extensive real estate and investment management experience.   In her current role, she is responsible for leading all sustainability functions and personnel within the Lend Lease Americas Public Partnerships and Healthcare businesses.     In her prior role with the organization, she served     as the Senior Program Manager of Sustainability.

Roshanda Johnson, BS, MBA  Roshonda

Educational Background

BS in Health Care Administration with a minor in Business Administration from Tennessee State University

MBA in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University

Career Highlights

As Director of the Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic, Mrs. Johnson is responsible for the day-to-day operations of an interdisciplinary clinic that provides services to people living with HIV/AIDS. She is also responsible for the administration of wraparound programs and several grants totaling over two million dollars which provide additional financial support to the clinic’s programs. Prior to assuming her     administrative role with Vanderbilt,     Mrs. Johnson was employed as the Department Administrator and Fiscal Manager in the Department of Surgery at Meharry Medical College.

 
Gerard Y. Shu Tangyie, MPH, M.D.

Career Highlights

                   Dr. Shu Tangyie is currently the Medical Director and CEO of SASH Healthcare and the Director of the Infectious Disease Program at Kindred Hospital in Nashville, TN. Dr. Shu Tangyie has had a long and successful medical career in Music City with previous roles as the attending physician in General Internal Medicine at Nashville General Hospital. Among     his many important appointments and positions, Dr. Shu Tangyie     is a member of the state of Tennessee’s AIDS Center of Excellence Protocol Committee and the state of Tennessee’s Minority Initiative Task Force.  

Kimberlee Wyche Etheridge, MPH, MD Kim

Career Highlights

Dr. Wyche-Etheridge is the previous Director of the Bureau of Family, Youth and Infant Health at Metro Nashville Davidson County Public Health Department where she oversaw 13 programs which ranged from school health to home visiting programs.  During her career in public health, Dr. Wyche-Etheridge has served as the Interim Chief Medical Officer and Co-Director of the Health Department from September 2006 to July 2007. She founded the Nashville Chapter of the Birthing Project, and now serves as the Medical Director for Birthing Project USA with chapters in 80 cities and three countries. Dr. Wyche-Etheridge serves as the current    Chair of the Board of Directors for City Match, the only national urban maternal child health organization.  She is also the Interim Assistant Director of Public Health Initiatives at Tennessee State University

Career Highlights

 Dr. Bailey began her career at the Metro Nashville Public Health Department in 1981 as Medical Advisor for the East Nashville Clinic. She was promoted to the Medical Director and Director of Health Services Administration before serving 11 years as the Health Department’s Director. As Director of Health, she gained national recognition: she was President of NACCHO and the PHLI and received several awards, notably - the Roemer Award from the American Public Health Association and the Nathan Davis Award from the American Medical Association. Dr.     Bailey became the Chief of Public Health Practice in the office of the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, serving for six years and is currently serving as the Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Tennessee State University (TSU) and TSU’s Director of Public Health Initiatives.

Master of Public Health Student Ambassador shield

Each year, the Advisory Board will select one student from the Master of Public Health Student Ambassador’s Program to serve as a student representative on the Advisory Board.   The TSU Master of Public Health Ambassador Program is designed to provide peer information and support to prospective and incoming students as well as establish stronger relationships with MPH alumni.     Ambassadors are expected to do many different things to promote and serve the Master of Public Health Program at Tennessee State University. They act as liaisons between the program and the community; they provide assistance     to prospective students and the University, and welcome visitors on campus by providing them with an orientation to the MPH program and the University. The MPH     Ambassadors also attend events on and off campus by representing the Public Health Program.
