Strings Area

Bowed and plucked string instrument studies at TSU.

TSU string students

The Strings Area offers excellent instruction on a wide range of instruments: violin, viola, cello, string bass, electric bass, classical guitar, electric guitar, and harp. Students may take applied lessons on any of these instruments at the major, secondary or elective levels. Music majors and minors will further develop their musical skills and knowledge by taking courses in piano proficiency, music theory and music history.

In addition to individual lessons and coursework, string students can also develop their musical skills by participating in a wide variety of ensembles that the Department of Music offers, including Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, Cello Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and various Commercial Music Ensembles. The numerous performance opportunities presented by these ensembles, together with student recitals and university functions, provide our string students with the stage on which they can grow into matured performers.
