Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to Computer Science at Tennessee State University
Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at Tennessee State University. Our distinctive department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program with excellent opportunities for our students. It is important to note that less than 30% of the computer science programs in the U.S. are accredited and we are pleased to offer a state-of-the-art curriculum aligned with the needs of IT industry, state and federal government agencies, defense industries, healthcare and banking sectors. We also offer an exciting Master of Science in Computer Science Program with two concentrations: (1) Cyber-Security & Networking and (2) High-Performance Computing & Bioinformatics. This program is specifically designed for recent college graduates and IT professionals. In addition, we are part the Computer and Information Systems Engineering Ph.D. Program.
Our well-prepared students typically receive multiple internship offers and full-time employment opportunities. As an example, one of our freshmen received 5 simultaneous internship offers from IBM, Oak Ridge National Lab, National Security Agency, Air Force Research Lab, and Healthcare Corporation of America.
Our highly qualified faculty attracted over $1,500,000 research funding within the last 3 years from National Science Foundation, NASA, Air Force Research Lab, and National Institute of Health. We provide financial support for over 25 undergraduate students with our active research grants. Faculty research areas include cyber-security, computer communications and networks, high-performance computing, cloud computing, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, robotics, and data sciences.
We are the only department in the State of Tennessee that offers an undergraduate bioinformatics concentration and we are among very few in the country. Our students from this concentration have a head start in bioinformatics for jobs in healthcare industry or further graduate studies. We have about $600,000 funding to support our bioinformatics efforts.
We invite you to be part of our computer science family. If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact us at (615) 963-5800 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
