Graduation requirements consists of the
university requirements,
specific College of Engineering
requirements and the
CS Department requirements.
University Requirements
- Each CS major must take and pass successfully all 120
credit hours of courses specified in the CS Curriculum.
- Student must take the
Rising Junior
Examination. This examination is required for all baccalaureate degree
seekers who entered TSU in August 1997 and after. The Rising Junior
Examination is as assessment tool for general education. Students should
take this test when they have completed 51 to 60 semester hours and have
satisfied the general education requirements for their major so that they
can be admitted to upper division studies in their majors.
- Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) institutions are
required to assess the outcomes of their educational programs by evaluating
all graduating students with a measure of general academic knowledge and
skills. At TSU this is known as
Senior Exit
Examination (ETS). All TSU seniors must take this test as a requirement
for graduation. Foreign students whose first language is not English are
exempt from this requirement.
Specific College Requirements
- No student will be allowed to take any departmental
courses, major courses, engineering courses, mathematics and / or science
courses without having successfully completed the proper prerequisites for
those courses with a grade of "C" or better.
- Students earning a grade of "D" or lower in mathematics
courses, science courses, departmental courses, major courses, or
engineering courses must repeat that course the very next time the course
(s) is offered.
- Each student must complete a practicum prior to
graduation. A practicum may include: an internship, cooperative education
experience, research experience, assistant in an engineering/technology
laboratory, or other engineering/technology practical experiences. The
practicum must be approved in advance by the student's faculty advisor and
it must be at least eight
(8) continuous weeks in length. The Dean's office or
Office of Cooperative Education (OCE) will assist students in locating a practicum.
- Students may graduate with a maximum of two (2) "D"
grades earned in the last two (2) semesters of the senior year. All other
"D" grades earned in courses prior to the senior year must be repeated the
very next semester the courses are offered until a minimum grade of "C" is
earned. If a graduating senior earns more than two (2) grades of "D" during
the senior year, that senior will not graduate until that senior has only
two(2) grades of "D" or no grades less than "C".
The CS Department
