2009

-Two of four theatre students who competed were semi-finalists in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition at the Regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).

-One student received a National KCACTF Certificate:  Outstanding Performance (portrayal of Billy Holiday).

-Dr. Lawrence James directed and coordinated the invited KCACTF production:  LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL.  The production was later given two performances at the National Black Theatre Festival.  A segment of the production was featured presentation at the TSU National Alumni Association Conference in San Antonio.

-Faculty Certificate  of Merit awarded to Dr. James—Directing.

  2011

-Three theatre students received National KCACTF  Certificates:  Outstanding Performance (roles in RUINED).

-The production of RUINED, directed by Dr. Lawrence James, was one of  6  invited productions to the Regional KCACTF Festival, and then chosen as an Alternate Production for the National Festival.

-Faculty Certificates of Merit:  Dr. James—Directing and Mr. Jeffrey Strange—Scenic Design.
