FACULTY SENATE MEETING
OCTOBER 28, 2004
Present: Senator William Hayslett, Presiding, Senator Festus Olorunniwo, Senator Rodney Stanley, Senator Frank Jones (representing Valeria Matlock)), Senator Benny Washington, Senator Adebayo Oyebade, Senator Deborah Burris Kitchen, Senator Samuel Dunson, Senator Mohsen Shirani, Senator Sandria Godwin, Senator Anita Etheridge, Senator Hope Mitchell-Oliver, Senator Celeste William, Senator Koen Vercruysse, Senator Orville Bignall, Senator E. I. Called to Order: Senator Hayslett called the meeting to order at 2:45 p.m.
II. Approval of Minutes from September 16, 2004 meeting: Corrections were made to several senators’ names. The Faculty Senate Secretary requested that each senator print their name to ensure correct spelling. Senator Sanford made a motion to accept the minutes with the necessary corrections; Senator Hope Mitchell-Oliver seconded the motion. Motion carried.
III. Old Business: No old business.
IV. New Business:
Feedback on TSU Homepage: Senators voiced several concerns relative to the new homepage which included items such as the following:
1. Homepage unattractive
2. Difficult to navigate
3. Difficult to access My TSU
Senate Olorunniwo made a motion that the faculty chair submit a recommendation to the President’s Council stating that since the current website is not user friendly, the Senate recommends that a comprehensive survey be developed, and administered to faculty, staff, and students for the purpose of identifying specific problems. Senator Asamani seconded. Motion passed.
Compensation Study (Faculty, Staff, and Administration: The university is about to embark upon another salary study to be done by an outside consultant. Senator Morgan-Curtis suggested that rather than hire a consultant, conduct the study using existing capable individuals who are already on campus to conduct the study. Senator Vercruysse amended the motion to include “use existing data.” The motion with the attached amendment was accepted and motion was carried.
Senate Updates: Senator Al-Hadid presented curriculum proposals approved by the Curriculum Committee to the Senate. These proposals included:

Senator Al-Hadid made a motion to accept, Dr. Stanley seconded. Motion carried.

Senator Morgan-Curtis: Reported that the Academic Integrity Committee has met twice and will have some information out soon.
Senator Asamani – Requested that the Constitution Committee meet on Nov. 4, 2004 in the LRC 212.
Senator Hayslett requested that all committee chairs schedule their committee meetings in the faculty Senate room through Colonel Laird.
Senator Asamani requested that the first Thursday in each month be scheduled for the Constitution Committee.
Presidential Search – Senator Hayslett provided the senate with an overview of the process as well as provided an opportunity for the senate to review the applications. Senators were encouraged to attend the meetings which are held on the campus. He encouraged the senators to continue to identify capable individuals and encourage them to apply. A motion was made that a Senate subcommittee be formed to review the applications and provide a report to the senate. The following persons volunteered to serve on a special subcommittee. They include:

TSU Mission Statement Update – If the senate has some input relative to the update of the mission, senators should be prepared to discuss in the next meeting.
