FACULTY SENATE MEETING
January 20, 2005
Present: Senator William Hayslett, Presiding, Senator Janet Finch, Senator Samantha Morgan-Curtis, Senator Sandria Godwin, Senator Deborah Burris-Kitchen, Senator Kelly Sanford, Senator Adebayo Oyebade, Senator Judy Gentry, Senator Thomas Davis, Senator Anita Etheridge, Senator Orville Bignall, Senator Anthony Ejiofor, Senator Hope Oliver, Senator Dharmendra Dhakal, Senator Valeria Matlock, Senator Shirley Bass, Senator Essam Hamid, Senator Celeste Williams, Senator Benny Washington, and Senator Valeria Matlock
I. Call to Order: President Hayslett called the meeting to order at 2:50 p.m.
II. Minutes of Last Meeting - Senator Bignall made motion to approve the minutes; Senator Sanford seconded. Corrections were cited. Minutes were approved with stated corrections. Motion passed.
III. Committee Reports: (1) Academic Integrity Committee is working on an honor code for the university. A draft of the code will soon be sent to faculty for students to review and provide comments. This draft will also be placed on the website for students to comment. (2) Library Committee - Library is encountering some cosmetic changes. Encouraging liaisons to place order for books immediately.
IV. Spring Semester Meeting Time: The spring meeting time was discussed and it was decided that the 2:40 p.m. time should be retained as the official meeting time for spring semester 2005.
V. Presidential Search: President Hayslett requested volunteers to serve as moderators for presidential candidates. Senators were reminded to encourage their colleagues to attend the various sessions and raise question to the candidates relative to the following:
1. Shared governance in their position;
2. Knowledge of consent decree and what is their interpretation relative to an HBCU;
3. Philosophy of research relative to course loading, funding and benefits;
4. Administrative salaries for vice presidents relative to the to size of university – What should they be paid?
5. In the absence of a consent decree, how does one fill the void?
VI. Moderators for Faculty Forums: Senators volunteered to serve as moderators. In additions to questions suggested in item IV, other questions will be formulated and sent to the volunteers.
VII. Parking for Senators: The question relative to senator parking was raised again. This issue continues to be an ongoing concern.
