Seed Grant Awards

As a part of TSU's endeavor to move the needle from R2 to R1 Carnegie Classification, the Division of Research and Sponsored Programs has offered Seed Grant Awards to Research Staff and Faculty.  Usually topping at $5,000, the Seed Grant is expected to be used to facilitate some portion of the PI's project required to enable a more substantial proposal to be submitted to a larger funding agency.  All staff and faculty of TSU are eligible to receive the Seed Grant award with some stipulations:

  • If a PI has received a Seed Grant, but has not submitted a proposal related to the project for which the Seed Grant was awarded, that PI will not be eligible for the following cycle of the Seed Grant Award Program.
  • If the Seed Grant is awarded, the PI and Administrative Assistant must attend a financial award training given by RSP.  If unattended, the Seed Grant will not be issued to the departmental account for the PI.

Ten Seed Grant Awards will be given this cycle.  PIs who receive Seed Grants will have until June 1, 2024 to spend the funds as indicated in the budget supplied with their application.  Please feel free to submit an application.  The completed application will need to be saved and e-mailed to research@tnstate.edu Click here to access the Fall 2023 Seed Grant Award Application. Applications may be submitted until 4:30 p.m. on September 21, 2023.  Awardees will be notified by October 10, 2023.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding submission of the application, please feel free to contact Reginald Cannon at rcannon@tnstate.edu
