Lactoylglutathione lyase (LGL) plays an important role in the response to many environment stresses in plants. We generated transgenic tomato plants by overexpressingSlLGL1. A proteomic analysis of transgenic tomato root tissue, grown in Al-treated and no Al liquid cultures, was performed. The improved salt and Aluminum tolerance of transgenic plants was indicated by their higher seed germination rate and greater biomass. Further investigation showed that the OE plants had much less reductions than the wild-type in the net photosynthesis rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), and the maximal photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) during salt and Al stress; indicating that OE of SlLGL1 may alleviate photosynthesis inhibition during salt and Aluminum stress.
