The ICAN Tutorial Program is here to serve you!
PURPOSE
As part of the AEAO retention effort, the ICAN Tutorial Program is dedicated to enabling student success and enhancing student learning potential through interaction with Peer Tutors and appropriate computer-based materials. ICAN is an AEAO effort to extend the torch of learning to all TSU students.
HOURS AND LOCATION
The ICAN Center is located in the Harold Love Learning Resource Center, Room 224. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tutorial sessions are scheduled within the framework of the normal business day, but specific times vary by semester depending on tutor availability. ICAN Peer Tutors are not available during semester breaks. The ICAN office is closed during TSU designated holidays.
Visit the ICAN Center early in the semester before the coursework becomes problematic. We hope to help you achieve maximum academic success!
THE ICAN PROCESS
Students should come to the Center to arrange face-to-face appointments. Through a short interview, the optimum session time, appropriate tutor, and combination of tutor interaction and/or appropriate computer-based materials can be chosen to suit your specific needs. Individual sessions are by prior appointment and last approximately one hour. Scheduled sessions are reserved for the entire semester as long as attendance is maintained. Students are strongly encouraged to make the commitment to meet with their tutor every week. Walk-in appointments can be accommodated when a Peer Tutor does not have a previously scheduled appointment.
The ICAN Center's Peer Tutors provide assistance in many college level subjects including math, natural/physical sciences, and business courses. The Virtual ICAN also provides web-based tutorial sites and learning objects in a wide variety of subject areas to compliment and enhance face-to-face sessions. Students needing assistance with English and writing are directed to the AEAO Writing Center. Students taking DSPM courses can also receive assistance in the AEAO Math Lab. If an ICAN Peer Tutor is unavailable for the subject requested, every effort will be made to find another campus resource to meet the student's needs.
