About the Academy

The COVID-19 Academy at TSU is a direct response to the pandemic that our world is facing today. It has been established to provide resources, training, and educational assistance to the local, state, and national communities. The Nashville area will benefit from the COVID-19 Academy which will be housed in the College of Health Sciences at Tennessee State University. The Academy will consist of two components: (1) Resource Assistance and (2) Online and Certificate Learning.

Nashville / Davidson County Reopening Phase 2

The following modified conditions go into place Friday, July 3

  • Retail Stores and commercial businesses may open at 3/4 capacity. Employees must be screened daily and wear masks.
  • Restaurants may operate dine-in service at 1/2 capacity. Bars must remain closed for 14 days.
  • In accordance with Order 8, all residents must wear masks or face coverings at all times if leaving home.
  • Residents who are 65+ and those with underliying health conditions stay home. Those who have the ability to work from home should continue to do so.
  • No gatherings over 25 people.
  • Day Camps may operate at full capacity, provided social distancing can be maintained at all times.
  • Gyms and high-touch businesses like hair and nail salons may open at 1/2 capacity.
  • Live entertainment is permitted. Dance floors remain closed.
  • Continue social distancing and keep at least 6 feet away from others at all times, including while outdoors.
  • Metro parks and facilities, including dog parks, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, skate parks, splash pads and little league sports may remain open.

Resource Assistance

  • Telehealth resources such as connecting residents with doctors to receive real time medical assistance.

  • Food service resources including a listing of local food banks, food pantries, and other outlets where local residents can go to pick up food.

  • Distributing Frequently Asked Questions and Fact Sheets

  • Work force development initiatives that will include a listing of open jobs in the Nashville area.

 

Online & Certificate Learning

  • Webinars on outreach, community gardening and preparedness

  • Workforce development retooling and re-entry

  • Entrepreneurship and small business development 

  • A for-credit course will be offered in app development

  • Continuing education for healthcare individuals 

  • Developing soft skills
  • Preparing resumes and interview preparation
