Summer Completion Academy

What is the Summer Completion Academy?

It is a rigorous one-week in residential program that allows freshmen students admitted into Tennessee State University to complete all Learning Support Requirements while receiving quality instruction, college success information, campus and peer engagement, and academic development.

What are the dates of the camp?

The camp is offered in two, one-week sessions. If students choose to attend SCA, they will only need to attend one session.
June 25th –June 30th, 2017
July 16th – July 21st, 2017

 When should we be there?

Please refer to the schedule link listed on the website. Generally speaking, the first activities of the Summer Completion Academy (SCA) start at 1:30 pm on the Sunday of the camp. The camp will have an opening ceremony for students and parents that will cover the things that students and parents need to know about the camp’s expectations as well as remarks from campus administrators.

Will students be able to leave campus at night?

Due to the rigorous schedule of SCA, students will not be able to leave campus. Students must receive permission from the Director to leave campus in the event of an emergency.  We will confirm the emergency with parents and/or guardians.

Where will students stay and what will they eat?

Students participating in our camp will live in our on-campus Residence Halls on campus. Students will receive a key to their room and an ID card which must be worn at all times while on campus. The ID card will also have their meal plan on it. Students will eat in our main cafeteria for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

What will a boot camp day be like?

The day will start early with breakfast and a morning debrief meeting where you will learn more about TSU history, the alma mater, and other TSU items.  You will then start your classes for the day. Classes start at 9 am and finish at 4:30 pm. You will have dinner after class and then move on to a college success workshop. After the workshop, you will have study hall and then spend the rest of the night in your residence hall with your SCA Peer Leaders doing an Engagement Activity. Lights out at 11 pm each night!

You can see the tentative schedule here

How much does it cost for the camp?

There is a $100 activity fee that must be paid by June 1st, 2017 for the program.  This fee will cover housing, meal plans, and camp activities.
