STARS Program

Find Success at TSU!

Find the personal attention, support, and services you need to strengthen your academic achievement and opportunities for success through TSU’s Center for Student Achievement, Retention, and Success (STARS).

Take advantage of programs in developmental studies to enhance your reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills, as well as your creativity and time management.

If you’re taking support courses, or if you’re an undecided student, a special student, or a transient student, you’ll also benefit from our academic support—including virtual and face-to-face tutorials and workshops—provided in a welcoming, respectful, collaborative, and professional environment.

TSU’s Academic Learning Center provides you with in-person and online academic support through the following:

The STARS Advisement Center offers advisement services from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day on the main campus for students taking support courses, undecided students, special students, and transient students.

EMERGING SCHOLARS

Emerging Scholars, our learning communities, help you discover relationships between ideas and fields of study. You’ll collaborate with a small group (community) of your peers in an interdisciplinary program organized around themes related to inquiry, problem solving, indentification of issues, and proposal of solutions. By sharing academic and social activities over the course of a semester, you’ll be better prepared for success once you’re admitted to the major program of your choice.

IMPROVE YOUR PLACEMENT IN CLASSES BEFORE ENROLLING AT TSU

Before you enroll at TSU, you can improve your placement in reading, writing, and math courses by participating in TSU’s Summer Success Institute. This five-week program helps you as a high school sophomore or junior to prepare to make higher ACT/SAT scores. As a high school senior, you can build your skills in English, math, and reading, and fulfill TSU’s study skills requirements before your first fall semester. By taking summer classes on TSU’s beautiful campus, you’ll also develop positive relationships with our faculty members and know where you’re going when you return to class in the fall.
