Advisement Center

The Advisement Center offers advisement services from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday on the main campus for all students with under 42 earned credits who do not have a major, are on academic probation, and/or are returning from academic suspension.  Visit us in Room 116 in the Student Success Center.

Writing Center

The Writing Center offers one-on-one face-to-face tutorials from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday on the 3rd floor in the Student Success Center of the main campus for students, faculty, and staff.  They also offer a Virtual Writing Center for those unable to attend an appointment in person and University-wide workshops and in-class workshops at the instructor's request.

Mathematics Center

The Mathematics Center's goal is to provide support for students in the mathematics courses required by their various majors.  The center also provides a major service known as the Online Math Lab, which is supervised by a knowledgeable group of highly trained specialists.  The Math Center is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday on 2nd floor in the Student Success Center of the main campus.  Tutoring assistance is available in room 202.

Reading Center

The Reading Center works with students to foster life-long learning and scholarly inquiry through a process of self-motivation and independent learning.  Advanced and fair readers who require support are welcome to get any comprehensive assistance that may help them achieve their academic goals. The Reading Center is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday on 2nd floor in the Student Success Center of the main campus.  Tutoring assistance is available in room 209.

Tiger Tutoring

Tiger Tutoring is a program that hires peer tutors to the learning support centers providing an opportunity for students at TSU to get help from fellow classmates with an advanced grasp on Math, Reading, or Writing.  Peer Tutors support instructors within the support centers in their efforts to make the material in courses more iterative and understandable.

The Office of Academic Success will provide services and resources for the University community to assist students with academic success strategies and tools while providing a high level of customer service.

The Office of Academic Success will strive to empower students by providing knowledge and tools to achieve their academic goals.  In alignment with Tennessee State University’s retention initiatives, the Office of Academic Success will develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key constituents across campus and in the community to advance the persistence and retention of students at or above the progression benchmarks set by the University.  This will be accomplished through innovative and student-centered programming and interventions offered through The Advisement Center, Learning Support Centers, Tiger Tutoring, and other academic success initiatives.
