YEP: College Access Now Program (

 

Summer Apprenticeship Program (June 1, 2015 through July 2, 2015)

Registration Period:    Closed

Registration Fee:         None

Registrants Accepted:  A total of (24) Rising High School Seniors*, immediate high school graduates**, and Community College Students (Must be U.S. Citizens)

Special Notes:  This is a Residential Program with a move in date of June 1, 2015, and a move out date of July 2, 2015.

Details and Description: The College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Sciences (CAHNS) seeks to increase enrollment with students who are interested in attending Tennessee State University and pursuing a degree in Agricultural Sciences or Family and Consumer Sciences.  

           The program’s main goals are to:

  • stimulate interest in careers related to agricultural, consumer, and environmental sciences; cooperative extension and agricultural research;
  • provide greater awareness and information concerning financial assistance;
  • offer a positive avenue for youth to spend a portion of their summer in experiential learning;
  • afford high school students the opportunity to learn basic and advanced technologies essential for environmental caretaking at the local, state, national, and global levels;
  • provide a constructive program that will teach students about educational and career opportunities in the Agricultural and Consumer Sciences;

*Rising Seniors

  • Must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Please be reminded, selections are limited, therefore a GPA of 3.0 and above will be given preference.
  • Provide two recommendation letters from teacher/counselor or community leader
  • Must be willing to participate in all Program activities
  • Must complete, sign and submit a copy of the Program Application by deadline

 

**Graduating Seniors

  • Must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA or 19 ACT (900 SAT). Please be reminded, selections are limited, therefore a 21 ACT (980 SAT), or overall weighted minimum 3.0 GPA will be given preference.
  • By projected high school graduation date, must meet Admissions Unit requirements for Tennessee State University (TSU)
  • Must have applied for admission to TSU
  • Must be willing to consider pursuing a degree in Agriculture or Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Provide two recommendation letters from teacher/counselor or community leader
  • Must be willing to participate in all Program activities
  • Must complete, sign and submit a copy of the Program Application by deadline
