| Small Business Development Center The Tennessee State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is a business development program of the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBDC is designed to provide comprehensive assistance to small businesses thereby promoting growth and increasing productivity in an effort to foster greater economic development in the Nashville Metroplex. SBDC provides up-to-date counseling, training and technical assistance in all aspects of small business management. In 2001-2002 the center provided more than 2,800 hours of one-on-one counseling to 400 clients. Additionally, more than 800 entrepreneurs attend the center's seminars and nearly 1,000 clients utilized the services of the state-of-the-art resource center.  | Office of International Business Programs The international focus in the College of Business at Tennessee State University is not entirely new; however, an Office of International Business Programs has been created to sharpen our focus. The OIBP fosters student interests in global issues, encourages faculty development and international research and internationalizes the College’s curriculum. We also direct student exchange programs and solicit sources of funding for study abroad programs. The OIBP reaches out to the local business community and particularly to those firms with an interest in global markets. Through these contacts, we arrange internships for students. | Nashville Business Incubation Center The Nashville Business Incubation Center (NBIC) opened in 1986. It is the result of a cooperative effort between Tennessee State University, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and Growth Enterprises Nashville, Inc. The center serves as a working laboratory for students, primarily from the TSU College of Business. Students are assigned to resident businesses according to their academic concentrations and according to the specific needs of companies. Students have developed data systems, designed marketing strategies, and set up accounting systems. Many students come to the NBIC as interns, fulfilling requirements of a national foundation grant.
