Windows onto the World

A Series of Lectures and Panels in the TSU College of Business Presented by the Office of International Business Programs.

Among the first initiatives undertaken by the new Director of OIBP in 1999 was the organization of a monthly lecture series entitled Windows onto the World. As the title of the series would suggest, its objective is to provide an educational forum for discussion of a full range of international topics. The series format is basically the same each month. Events are held the third week of the month in the Atrium of the Avon Williams Campus of TSU during the Fall and Spring semesters and are open to TSU students and faculty as well as the community-at-large. Each event, which begins at noon, is free and features a light lunch followed by the presentation of a speaker or panel and discussion. Speakers have included representatives from businesses and agencies, visiting and local faculty, and students. Attendance averages between 35 and 50 persons, although popular topics have brought larger audiences.

The first event, presented in the Fall of 1999, was entitled "Doing Business in China" and featured Mr. Bo Roberts, a well-known public figure in Middle Tennessee. Mr. Roberts had been a principal organizer of the Knoxville World's Fair in 1982, which featured representation from the Peoples' Republic of China.
