Dr. Abu N. M. Wahid is the editor of the Journal of Developing Areasa
thirty-six year old journal of international repute. He received his Ph.D.
from the University of Manitoba, Canada, in 1989. Prior to joining Tennessee
State University, he taught at various colleges and universities of the
U. S., Canada, and Bangladesh. Professor Wahid specializes in money and
banking, macroeconomics, and international trade. Over the last ten years
or so, he has published FIVE books as author and editor. His latest book
(ed) Frontiers of Economics: Nobel Laureates of the Twentieth Century,
published by Greenwood Press of America is expected to intrigue a sizeable
number of economists around the world. His first book (ed) on the Grameen
Bank of Bangladesh is also widely cited and was used as text on microlending
at Hartwick College of New York. In addition, he has made about forty
publications in the form of refereed journal articles and book chapters.
He also wrote several papers for non-refereed journals and conference
proceedings. He published quite a few book reviews in refereed journals
as well. Professor Wahid successfully negotiated the terms and conditions
of an academic exchange agreement between Tennessee State University and
a foreign private institution in the late 1990s. He spent the summer of
1997 in Bangladesh as a Fulbright scholar. He received research grants
from the Japan Foundation, American Institute of Bangladesh Studies, University
of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Eastern Illinois University and Tennessee State
University. He is the recipient of faculty excellence awards for research
from Tennessee State University, Eastern Illinois University, and the
College of Business at Tennessee State University. He delivered invited
lectures at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara and University
of Pretoria, South Africa.
