GEIER NONTRADITIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
INTRODUCTION TO APPLICATION

All deadline dates have been extended to July 5, 2007

In an effort to recruit nontraditional students to degree programs offered at night, on weekends, and via distance education, Tennessee State University (TSU) is offering financial assistance to both undergraduate and graduate students who meet the criteria set forth below. The scholarships have been created as a result of the Geier settlement or Geier Consent Decree, a court order with a primary objective to “eradicate policies and practices traceable to [the State’s] prior de jure system [of public higher education] that continue to foster segregation.” One of the main directives of the decree relates to providing educational opportunities to nontraditional students.

Thus, a scholarship fund has been established to provide financial assistance to nontraditional students who maintain residency in the Metropolitan Nashville Statistical Area (MNSA). Participants in this program may be full-time or part-time, undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in eligible programs of study.

The scholarship is renewable for four consecutive semesters, excluding the summer terms, provided the student meets the Grade Point Average (GPA) and program requirements. Scholarship awards are based on the availability of funds.
