Communications Dispatchers

The Mission of Tennessee State University Police Department is to provide a safe and secure educational environment. In doing so, our department maintains a 24 hour, 7 days a week operation that is staffed with Communication Dispatchers who are responsible for answering the police department's phone line. Our dispatchers have been trained and certified through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and authorized to receive and respond to 911 emergency calls for assistance. 

The Communication Dispatchers are also available to assist you with a variety of other inquiries when you call or visit our office located at 3510 W. Heiman Street in the General Service Building (located between Ford Apartments and the New Residence Apartments).

Duties of our communication dispatchers include:

·         Receiving and prioritizing incoming calls for assistance

·         Assisting walk-ins

·         Maintaining daily activities summary log

·         Maintaining the status of police officers in the field

·         Dispatching police officers and other emergency services, when necessary

·         Operating criminal justice computer systems (NCIC/ Metro Nashville Police Terminal) that provide officers with critical information and records of criminal offenders.

·         Routinely test severe weather warning system according to schedule
