Despite understanding its importance and impact on the local economy, there has been little systematic study of the nature of immigrant entrepreneurship in Middle Tennessee.  There is a distinct lack of information on the patterns of entrepreneurship for different ethnic immigrant groups in Nashville, and the constraints faced by each group in creating, operating, growing, and planning for the success of their businesses.

In March 2008 the College of Business at TSU Office of International Business Programs in collaboration with the Office of Business and Economic Research received one of six Diversity Research grants for 2008-2009. This survey of immigrant entrepreneurs in Middle Tennessee represents a first step towards the collection and analysis of primary data containing such information.
