Mission

The Office of International Business Programs stries to enhance the University's role in preparing students and faculty to live and work in a global marketplace. The purposes and goals also include:

  • Building stronger linkages with international corporations and universities abroad.

  • Promoting the international thrust of the College of Business curriculum and preparing students to enter the international business arena.

  • Increasing the language and cultural expertise and fostering greater international research of faculty and graduate students.

History

The Office of International Business Programs (OIBP) was established in the College of  Business at Tennessee State University in 1999. Since then, the OIBP has strived to implement programs that require the application of business skills in real life, giving students a well-rounded understanding of business. The program serves to provide students with numerous opportunities to immerse themselves in business both locally and globally.

The OIBP has grown immensely throughout the years and offers students many ways to network and develop their skills as future businessmen and leaders. Additionally, the OIBP maintains strong connections and relationships with local organizations, such as the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. Incorporating the concept of globalization in business is carried out through programs, which result in a unique academic and cultural experience. Since 2000 OIBP has submitted over twenty applications for funding of international exchanges, study abroad, and collaborative research. The following grants have been awarded and implemented.

Since the fall of 1999, OIBP has also presented the Windows onto the World lecture series, which takes place six times each year and focus on issues that concern international business. Past lecture series have focused on countries including Malawi, Tunisia, China, and others. The first event each fall showcases TSU students who have studied abroad or had an international experience. Currently, OIBP is participating in the Tennessee Board of Regent (TBR) Diversity Project and other programs devoted to international interests.
