Your success in becoming a highly effective teacher is our goal. From your approval as a teacher candidate through your student teaching experience and beyond, we’re here for you. As the connection between your chosen academic specialty and TSU’s teacher education program, you can count on the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services to maintain your records and keep you informed of requirements to meet licensure and retention standards. Depend on us to collaborate with you to find suitable pre-service field experiences in the Nashville metro area and elsewhere to provide relevant school-based experiences and clinical practice. Our responsibilities include:
The Office of Teacher Education and Student Services approves all students who apply for candidacy to the Teacher Education Program and completes a record for each applicant showing that the applicant has met standards for candidacy to Teacher Education.
Students who do not remove their deficiencies and meet the retention standards during the semester of probation are subject to be dropped from the Teacher Education Program. Field Experiences The College of Education provides pre-service field experiences in order to afford opportunities for students to correlate theoretical information with real life situations through:
The Office of Student Services and Teacher Education accept placement requests for these field based activities from teacher education faculty and students for the purpose of making appropriate placements. Observation placements are forwarded to the schools. The student teaching placement list for each semester is submitted to the Office of Pre Service Education of the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System and other school systems where students are placed.
