I am interested in the dynamics of power in the global society and how popular culture is influenced by and influences political action. As such, my research and teaching emphasize the connections between citizenship, artistic movement and the freedom of expression. Through the theoretical lenses of cultural studies, critical theory and rhetoric, I analyze media texts and public policy to better understand how global events are shaped by words and imagery. I teach from a critical pedagogical perspective challenging students to learn and think critically about their roles in society as it pertains to citizenship, justice and equality.
