Performance Measures
Tennessee State University (TSU) measures its performance, including student progress, based on the five key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the University's Strategic Plan:
- Access and Diversity,
- Academic Quality and Student Success,
- Business Friendly Practices,
- Engagement,
- and Revenue Generation.
The first four KPIs listed above, specifically address the University's student achievement goals. Charted below are the data collected highlighting student achievement and success.
Measures for the Access and Diversity indicator include the following: growth in enrollment, distance education, and underserved population groups as outlined in the Strategic Plan. Overall Tennessee State University has maintained steady progress in meeting the Access and Diversity goal. Total enrollment at the University is consistent. Distance Education continues to grow and expand to reach students where they are.
Note: Other includes Hispanic, Native American, and Asian students.
Note: The number of online courses excludes the Regents Online Campus Collaborative (ROCC) courses.
Academic Quality and Student Success includes college completion and progression benchmarks. TSU continues to provide degrees for underrepresented sub-populations (Adults, Low-Income/Pell-eligible students, and African-Americans) that the University has identified as being mission-centric and the state has identified as being critical to its educational goals.
Note: Note: The above chart shows the count of students who surpassed key credit hour milestones during the year. For FY 2016, the number reflect 30, 60, and 90 hours (instead of 24, 48, and 72) to mirror the policy changes for the State of Tennessee and to represent student completion in four years
The Business-Friendly Practices indicator relates to the following: improvements in user satisfaction regarding the University’s core business and educational functions where “user” is defined as students, alumni, employees, and external constituents. The charts below reflect student satisfaction results from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). Tennessee State University’s Peer Institutions include Southeastern Public Universities, Carnegie Engaged Institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Overall, TSU compares favorably to its selective peers in the areas of Active and Collaborative Learning, Student-Faculty Interaction, and High Impact Practices.
Note: The above comparison (High Impact Practices) reflects the percent of students participating in two or more high impact Practices during their undergraduate career.
Engagement relates to the University’s involvement in community service, the number of TSU students participating in study abroad opportunities, and the number of international students enrolled at the Institution. TSU continues to be an international campus, as the international student enrollment has continued to grow. Students have more opportunities for quality learning as the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement has established more community partnerships and facilitated more courses on campus that incorporate community service.
