Performance Measures

Tennessee State University (TSU) measures its performance, including student progress, based on the five key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the University's Strategic Plan

The first four KPIs listed above, specifically address the University's student achievement goals. Charted below are the data collected highlighting student achievement and success.

Access and Diversity Banner
Measures for the Access and Diversity indicator include the following: growth in enrollment, distance education, and underserved population groups as outlined in the Strategic Plan. Overall Tennessee State University has maintained steady progress in meeting the Access and Diversity goal.  Total enrollment at the University is consistent. Distance Education continues to grow and expand to reach students where they are.

Banner Academic Quality and Student Success
Academic Quality and Student Success includes college completion and progression benchmarks. TSU continues to provide degrees for underrepresented sub-populations (Adults, Low-Income/Pell-eligible students, and African-Americans) that the University has identified as being mission-centric and the state has identified as being critical to its educational goals.

Banner Business Friendly

The Business-Friendly Practices indicator relates to the following: improvements in user satisfaction regarding the University’s core business and educational functions where “user” is defined as students, alumni, employees, and external constituents. The charts below reflect student satisfaction results from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). Tennessee State University’s Peer Institutions include Southeastern Public Universities, Carnegie Engaged Institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Overall, TSU compares favorably to its selective peers in the areas of Active and Collaborative Learning, Student-Faculty Interaction, and High Impact Practices.

  Banner Engagement

Engagement relates to the University’s involvement in community service, the number of TSU students participating in study abroad opportunities, and the number of international students enrolled at the Institution. TSU continues to be an international campus, as the international student enrollment has continued to grow. Students have more opportunities for quality learning as the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement has established more community partnerships and facilitated more courses on campus that incorporate community service.
