Short Bio

Dr. Dafeng Hui is Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN, USA. He received his Ph.D. degree in botany with an emphasis on ecology from the University of Oklahoma and the M.S. degree in agronomy with an emphasis in bio-statistics and genetics from Yangzhou University, China. His research interests lie in the broad areas of plant ecology, global change ecology, ecosystem ecology, agro-ecology, biogeochemical cycling, and ecological modeling.

Specifically, his research focuses on the following areas: (1) climate change effects on carbon, nitrogen, and water cycling in terrestrial ecosystems such as grasslands, forests, and croplands, (2) the effects of climate smart agricultural practices on crop yield and productivity and greenhouse gases (such as CO2 and N2O) emissions, (3) simulation of ecosystem carbon, nitrogen, and water cycling using ecological models, and (4) data syntheses on ecosystem productivity, biomass partition, litter decomposition, P cycling, and stoichiometry of C, N and P in terrestrial ecosystems.

Dr. Hui has published one book, several book chapters and more than 200 papers in scientific journals such as Nature, PNAS, Global Change Biology, Ecology, New Phytologist, Soil Biology and Biochemistry, Plant and Soil, PLoSOne, and Tree Physiology. He has served as associate/academic editor for Plant Ecology, Journal of Plant Ecology, PLoSOne, The Crop Journal, and Frontier in Environmental Sciences, and on editorial boards of several journals such as Geoderma, Global Change Biology and Scientific Reports. He also serves as a reviewer and reviews many manuscripts for more than 50 journals. Dr. Hui has also reviewed proposals for many funding agencies such as NSF, DOE, Romanian National Research Council, Austria Research Council, NSF of China, NCSTE of Republic of Kazakhstan, UK NERC, NKFI of Hungary, Fulbright Program, and Hong Kong Research Grants Council. He also served on proposal review panels for the NSF, NSF of China, and Romanian National Research Council. Dr. Hui’s research has been sponsored by the NSF, USDA and DOE. He is a member of AGU and ESA, and served as chair of Asian Ecology Section of ESA.
