Solid State Physics: Interactive Learning

NOTE: In principle these applets will work on any computer with an appropriately configured WWW browser. In practice the output may look slightly different on different computers and the programs will run at vastly different speeds depending on your computing power. Nevertheless, we certainly hope that you do not have to be a computer expert to use these pages. Important! Your browser must support Java and VRML. For VRML, look at Cortona's WEB site here

Phonon dispersion curve. JAVA Two dimensional lattice and its reciprocal lattice. JAVA Energy contours and density of states for electrons in a 2-d lattice. JAVA
Clusters of cubic structure. VRML 1 Simulation of a 3-d crystal. An attempt to combine VRML 2.0 and JAVA
You must a VRML 2.0 plug-in installed. This is a very slow page, it takes of the order of 5 minutes to completely download and your computer might look as if it has crashed.
Landau Levels.
JAVA
Spin precession in antiferromagnetic resonance.
VRML 2.0

Credits: The graphics library class graph was used in the first three applets. The interface between JAVA and VRML was done using the methods found in GCPoser.
